Kirtan, or singing of the Hare Krishna mantra, is a common occurence in many of the temples in the village of Radha-kunda such as Shyamasundar Mandir. Expert singers and players (kirtaniyas), such as Sanatan Das Baba who leads the kirtan today, are invited over to sing for the pleasure of the deity.
Today's kirtan is followed by arati, a ceremonial worship in which incense, lamps, water and other such items are offered to the deity of the temple. The occasion is concluded with a circumambulation of the temple, again to the accompaniment of songs.
